Switching to Nutri10 Plus Syrup

This post was made in collaboration with Nutri10 Plus Syrup. All opinions stated were mine.

My husband once told me this about our son, “Di na siya baby. Bata na siya.” While I refuse to acknowledge that hard truth (how can my baby grow up so fast!), my husband is so right. At 3 years and 7 months, our little boy has become more physically active, has a ravenous appetite, and has become more enthusiastic in learning and trying out new things. In order to keep up with his changing needs, I must find a better food supplement that will replace his usual Vitamin C and Zinc syrup. When I learned about Nutri10 Plus Syrup, I checked out its nutritional information online.

Nutri10 Plus - Nutritional Info
Taken from the Wert website

To know more about Taurine, Lysine, Chlorella and Zinc, which are the distinguishing components of Nutri10 Plus Syrup, I have looked them up at WebMD.

    • Taurine – According to WebMD, Taurine is an amino sulfonic acid, a chemical that is an essential building block of protein. Taurine is present in large amounts in our brain, retina, heart and platelets. Meat and fish are great sources of Taurine.
    • Lysine –   Lysine is also an amino acid that is used to prevent and treat cold sores. Lysine is also known to enhance athletic performance.
    • Chlorella – Chlorella is a fresh water algae that produces extracts called chlorella growth factor. Chlorella has a variety of uses. It stimulates the immune system, improves response to flu vaccine, prevents colds, and improves digestion, among others.
    • Zinc – Zinc is referred to as an “essential trace element.” It plays a vital role in wound healing, boosts the immune system, treats common cold and prevents lower respiratory infections.

Having read all about the benefits of these components, in addition to Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, C, D3 and E, I am more than sold in giving Nutri10 Plus syrup for my growing boy.

Nutri10 Plus Syrup

My husband and I have been using Babycenter.com as our trusted reference even before our son was born. It has a league of experts who write and review the articles that they publish in their website. I have checked on it to find out my son’s nutritional requirement for his age. I have found out that his daily diet must include the five major food groups, namely grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy and protein.

I am proud that my son eats a wide variety of foods. I’m so glad that my little boy ate brown rice the first time he tasted it and has been eating it ever since. But, there are still some foods that he refuses to eat, for example, a Caesar Salad, no matter how much I entice him to eat at least a spoonful of it. Given this circumstance, I need to find a way for him to meet the nutritional requirement for his age without forcing him to eat something that does not look appetizing to him. I do my best to make mealtimes enjoyable and avoid tears as much as possible. Giving Nutri10 Plus syrup definitely helped me in this aspect.

I started giving 2.5ml of Nutri10 Plus Syrup to my son on August 7. I was so glad that the syrup is ponkan-flavored making it appealing to my kid. Since then, I have noticed an increase in his appetite. He began asking for second and even third helpings during mealtimes. Snacks on cookies and cereals, sometimes sandwiches and burgers, have become more frequent.

I have also noticed an improvement in his stamina. He became a fast runner and would dash without panting. I seriously think that my son is ready to compete on a 3K!

At the Playdium
At the Playdium

He is also now stronger in that whenever he wants to turn our dining area into a pretend train station, he would lift his box of milk (containing 2 400-gram pouches) and move it on top of our microwave, push heavy chairs and line them up, and pick up his loaded toy box and place them in one of the chairs. When I’m not looking, he would get on top of the chairs and dance. He has also turned the bottom part of our stair’s railing into some sort of monkey bars and he would climb countless of times and sometimes dangle with one hand. The things that little boys do! I really need to keep an eye on him. And because I can’t do that all the time, I told my son to be careful and watch his step whenever he climbs. It’s a good thing that he keeps that in mind.I cannot stop my boy from running, climbing, and doing all sorts of acrobatic stunts, as much as I want to, so I just tell him to be careful or let him do it somewhere safer.

Our boy is noticeably taller. A few days ago, my husband measured our preschooler’s height and discovered that it matches his growth timeline. Soon he will be able to enjoy more rides at the theme parks!

I’m glad that I got to know about Nutri10 Plus syrup and that my child was blessed to have tried them. From what I have observed, it’s definitely good for him and at the same time, he enjoys having a dose each day. Nutri10 Plus syrup has made my son “aktibo’t malakas“!

My Great Finds at S & R Alabang

I got to find out what it’s like to shop at S&R even when I wasn’t a member yet. Back when I was still working at BGC, I tagged along with my officemates, who were cardholders of this membership-shopping club, to have lunch at its Food Service. I ordered a serving of Cheese Pizza for only Php99. It was a very filling meal for me because that serving consists of two slices of mouthwatering mozzarella goodness. The S&R Baked Beef Roll is also a must-try. I bought some for me and my husband and those rolls have somewhat made our traffic-filled ride home (from work) more bearable. That savory beef roll comes in a big serving, too. Since then, it has become my husband’s favorite.

I went past the Food Service and into the shopping area. I want to see if it is worth shelling out Php700 to be a Gold Member, the default membership card for regular shoppers. The other type of membership is the Business Member which is suited for business owners. I surveyed the goods being sold and the brands that they carry. Most of the merchandise available at the store are imported brands but they also have locally produced items. Some are being sold by the bulk, by two’s and in jumbo packs. There are a few items that can be purchased on its own. It was around Christmas time when I shopped at the BGC branch, still as a guest, and went out with an assortment of stuff that the kids really loved. I got a Mickey Mouse bowling set, two adorable girly back packs, a set of coloring books for boys, and another set of coloring and sticker books for girls. It was a positive experience that made me convince my husband to sign up for our own membership card.We can use it on all S&R branches nationwide, anyway.

He wasn’t all that sold on getting our own card. He told me to give it much thought. One time, after work, I joined my teammates again as they were about to do their groceries. I was disappointed that I barely found anything in the store that matches the items on my grocery list. Maybe, it’s not meant for us to have that card. I totally forgot about it.

Fast forward to 2016, my husband and I were so frustrated that we didn’t get that specialized package that we’ve been anticipating for a couple of months. That package included Delimondo, a local brand of corned beef that was only being sold at S&R and selected grocery stores that are far from where we live. It was a good thing that my sister holds a Gold Membership card at S&R Alabang. She told me that she signed up because the elusive lunch box that she wanted was only available at that store. I checked out the requirements from the S&R website and applied for an extension card through my sister’s membership. I got my card right after I applied though it would take a few hours before it gets activated. The staff just gave me a stub that I would have to show to the cashier whenever I would make a purchase. Since then, we have shopped at S&R thrice.

Here are my great finds from those trips. I have managed to take note of the prices of some of the items.

  • Whole Wheat Baguette (250 g) – Php 34.95

  • US Vanilla Marble Creme Ring Cake and US Double Choco Chip Creme Ring Cake (Buy 1 Take 1) – We got both cakes for only Php 299.95 – My favorite is the Choco Chip Cake :)

It’s good to shop at S&R when I want to buy by the bulk. But, it could get costly since we can’t buy everything that we usually need for our weekly supply. That’s why I assured my husband that we would only go there occasionally; when we want something that is exclusively sold at that store.

Be Not Afraid to Travel with Your Toddler

My son was less than two years old when we went on a family vacation in Japan. My husband and I pursued our dream of bringing our offspring to Disneyland to meet his all-time favorite character, Mickey Mouse, in person. To prepare for our first-ever, out-of-the-country, family trip, I scoured the web for every possible tip, advice, and recommendation on how to make our experience pleasantly memorable and comfortable especially for our toddler. Our son is now three years old and my husband and I are planning on another family getaway overseas. It’s a good thing that I came to know about The Toddler Travels: Tips and Thoughts for Your Little One’s First Vacation Abroad when I had the opportunity to attend its formal book launch. Now I have a single reference for our future adventures!

Genevieve Gutierrez-Figueroa, author of The Toddler Authors
Genevieve Gutierrez-Figueroa, author of The Toddler Travels

I was actually late for The Toddler Travels book launch; no thanks to the horrendous Friday traffic! My son and I left two hours before the event and had a ride with my husband from Ayala EDSA to Fully Booked but I was still an hour late. And I was not the only one. Anyway, it’s a good thing that I was able to catch up with the on-going discussion. The author, Genevieve Gutierrez-Figueroa, a fellow yaya- and maid-less mom (by choice) to a little one, dished out helpful tips on how to minimize stress and have fun with your young child while travelling abroad. She even shared a few personal experiences that will certainly dispel the fears and worries of families who are planning to embark on a journey with their young ones for the first time. Here are more travel-inspired stuff that I have learned from the self-published writer of The Toddler Travels:

  • For beginners, start with short-haul flights. You may want to go explore the Philippines first or go to countries that do not require a visa.
  • Singapore has a baby-friendly airport.
  • The author suggested Tokyo as a family destination since it has Disneyland, a zoo and all sorts of kid-friendly places.
  • You can never say that kids are too young to remember. The author shared that she was amazed that her own daughter remembers the places that they’ve been to and the things that they have seen.
  • With the current state of Manila traffic, you have to go four hours earlier to the airport to be relaxed and avoid the hassle. Genevieve added that it takes time to finish security check for baby stuff.
  • Don’t rush when travelling with your kids. They have their own pace.
  • To get the best out of your family vacation, travel for at least three full days.

The Toddler Travels

I can’t wait to get my own copy of The Toddler Travels. It will definitely help me out in preparing for our next family vacay and enjoy our overseas family bonding all the more!

Stylishly Comfy in My Pointed Martina Flats

This post was written in collaboration with Shoes Is You. All opinions stated are mine.

Shoes Is You Pointed Martina Flats

I stopped wearing high heels when I was pregnant for obvious reasons. My son is three years old already but I have yet to wear a pair of heels even on the formal events that we go to. Being a mom to an active explorer has taught me that I should be alert and prepared to chase him wherever he runs to – all the time. But, that doesn’t mean that I need to sacrifice style for comfort!

Shoes Is You Pointed Martina Flats
Breaking in on my Pointed Martina Flats while cooking at home

So, when we were preparing for my brother-in-law’s wedding in the last quarter of 2015, I was looking for a classy pair of shoes that will match the pastel-colored dress that I bought online. Wearing heels to match my outfit and suit the occasion is not an option for me as I have explained earlier. Also, our little boy will march down the aisle as the ring bearer and my husband and I have devised a plan that will make him enjoy and feel comfortable during his walk. It will be our son’s first and I have to be ready in case things get awry. I need to be comfy in my own shoes enough to carry him as much as he needs to or take off after him.

Shopping online from trusted and reliable sellers has brought a lot of convenience for me. I was checking my Instagram feed and came across Shoes Is You. This new IG-based store has a selection of flats, slip-ons and slides. I had my eyes on the Pointed Martina Flats as it perfectly suit my needs. I’ve been wanting to wear pointy shoes as I feel that they exude elegance and add glamour to an outfit. The Martina’s off white color makes it very versatile because I can wear it with anything from my humble wardrobe. I also like Martina’s design that leaves an opening on the arch area. It allows my feet to breathe and makes walking in this footwear very comfortable. On the day of the wedding, with preparations that started as early as 4AM and had a celebration ’til 2PM, I did a lot of moving around in my new shoes. I chased little boys running around; helped the flower girl break her fall; and walked around carrying my napping toddler! With all these, I have anticipated to have cramps or have pain on my toes. I have experienced such when wearing shoes, be it heels or flats, for an extended period of time. With the Pointed Martina Flats, I was surprised and very thankful to have not experienced any of  them! Big thanks to Joy of @shoesisyou for my stylish and ultra comfy Pointed Martina Flats!

The Pointed Martina Flats is a great buy at Php799. Take a look at the Shoes Is You page on IG and check out their Open Toe Clarice Sandals, Call Me Patty Slip-ons, Round Toe Alicia Flats, Catherine Peep Toe Flats, Carol Wedge Slides, Cube Wedge Slides, and Mary Espadrilles Slip-Ons.

Doña Elena World Pasta Month

October was a pretty busy month for me. It was a month full of birthday celebrations and special events. One of them was the Doña Elena World Pasta Month that I went to with my sister and our kids. The Doña Elena World Pasta Month was a success with their partnership with several media outlets including our group Mommy Bloggers Philippines.

Al Dente Pasta Festa Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
Ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Italian Embassy Deputy Consul Mr. Fabio Furlotti and the executives of Fly Ace Corp.

When we got there, the atrium of the Mall of Asia was already jampacked with pasta lovers, most of them came with their families. The venue, which was set up to look like an Italian food fair, had several pocket activities that featured products from Al Dente, Fly Ace Corporation and from the other partner brands.  Jho and I tried to line up to have our share of the Pasta Alla Carbonara and Tomato Basil Penne Al Dente pasta meal but we decided against it for the queue was too long. We just went around and visited the other booths.

Al Dente Pasta

That little cutie in the photo above is my constant event buddy! He was in a very good mood all through the day and even said hi to the lady at the Corelle booth. Behind him are shelves of Al Dente pasta and Doña Elena products. I’ve been using the Al Dente fettuccine, penne rigate and lasagna as well the Doña Elena whole peeled tomatoes to prepare sumptuous meals for my family. I love that Al Dente pasta are easier to cook (no need to add oil!), are firm to the bite and absorbs sauces well. Check out the next three photos to find out how these 100% durum wheat semolina pasta are being made.

Masflex was one of the brands at the festa. The brand showcased their selection of cookware and knives.

Masflex Non-Stick Pans

I’d love to have that frying pan from the Masflex Marble Series. I’m sure that it will take cooking to a new level. They look quite heavy, though.

Tecnogas, an Italian manufacturer of home cooking applicances, exhibited their top-of-the-line cookers and ovens. Someday, I would have my brand new cooker and oven :)

Tecnogas Gas Range

Gloria Jean’s was also there and treated guests to a cup of freshly brewed coffee. This coffee shop brings fond memories for it is where I use to hang out with my longtime buddies and it has also become a date place for me and my hubby.

Did you know that May is really a sparkling juice and not wine? But it tastes like wine! Hubby and I have been enjoying the 100% Sparkling Red Grape Juice on several ocassions long before I got acquainted with Fly Ace and their products. It’s perfect for breastfeeding moms like me who wanted to enjoy down time with the hubby without compromising the milk that I give to our (big) baby :) I had a sample of the White Grape variety and it tastes sweeter than the red one.

Corelle is a prime brand of dinnerware that has been around for quite some time already. We’ve been using Corelle plates at home, hand-me-downs from my mother-in-law, and they are really very durable and elegant. For that, I use our Corelle plates to add style to my food photos :) I’d love to have my own set of Corelle plates in the future. Will definitely include that in my prayer list!

Corelle Dinnerware

I’m looking forward to attending the Al Dente Pasta Festa next year and hope that I can finish it until the end. I was not able to stay longer and witness the cook-off for it was almost nap time already. I try to avoid triggering crankiness when we’re out and Daddy is not with us. I’m sure everyone had a lovely time at the festa, too! Have you been there, too? Please share your experience at the comments below :)

Toothache-free Yummy Treats

The last week of October is always filled with Halloween events where adults shower the kiddies with sweet treats. I was guilty of doing just that until I became a Mom to a toddler who got interested in participating in such festivities. There is no way that I will let his pearly whites subjected to too much consumption of sweets.

It’s a good thing that we now have Vita Cubes in the market. It’s one of the many products of Rebisco, the maker of biscuits that we have come to love while growing up. These jelly candies are not too sweet and they are fortified with vitamins and minerals. I need not worry when my little boy gets a handful of Vita Cubes from his stash. He just loves chewing on its different flavors – orange, strawberry, apple, grape and mango.

Vita Cubes Fruit Flavored Jelly Candies

For this season, consider giving out Vita Cubes for the little ones. It’s a healthier alternative to hard, toothache causing candies. Check out Rebisco’s cupcakes, wafers and shortcakes that you may add to the loot bags that you are about to give out. See how happy our little boy was upon seeing his goodies!

Happy toddler

Thank you so much Rebisco and Mommy Bloggers Philippines for our yummy treats! :)

The Baby Company Re-opens Store at Rockwell

Baby Company, the Baby Specialist, has recently re-opened its store at the Power Plant Mall in Rockwell. This baby boutique was conceptualized by SM and it has everything that a Mom like me would ever need for her little one. Baby Company offers a wide selection of fashion apparels, personal care, toys, nursery furniture, home safety, and travel accessories. The Baby Company did a good job in curating brands for every product category. Brands include Philips Avent, Graco, Disney, Maclaren, Pigeon, Chicco, Dr. Brown’s, Tommee Tipee, Safety 1st, Lamaze and Fisher Price. They also have in-house brands like Lulu, Baby Clean, BabyCo, Picolo, Ollin, and PlaySmart. If only my husband was with us at that time to look after our very active little boy, I would have leisurely shopped for Louiji’s necessities and plenty of cute stuff!

Baby Company at Power Plant

The Baby Company is located at the third level of Power Plant Mall. It is on the right end, where Toys ‘R Us and Powerville are located.  I like the layout of this baby store for its spacious and modern style. It has a number of aisles containing a variety of mom and baby products but the layout makes it convenient for shoppers to move around and find what they are looking for. Every section is labelled with either the product category or the brand name.

The store at Rockwell has a visually appealing display window which gives shoppers a good glimpse of what’s inside the boutique. Look, they even have installment plans for some of the items!

Happy 70th Birthday Thomas the Train!

Happy 70th Birthday, Thomas! Thomas the Tank Engine will be celebrating his birthday on September 27 at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium with all the kids and the young at heart who have known and came to love this Really Useful Engine.  Check out the poster below to find out how you can be part of the upcoming festivities.

Thomas' 70th Birthday Bash

I have discovered Thomas and Friends through my nephew. His toddler years were filled with watching the adventures of the blue steam engine on TV and having toys, bags and stuff bearing his favorite train. The fascination and endearment was passed on to my own little boy. Louiji enjoys watching Thomas and Friends and gets giddy each time I sing its theme song. My nephew has passed on his precious Thomas toys to my son who simply loves playing with them. The bulky Thomas train in the photo below is my toddler’s favorite. This chunky, battery-operated train moves and turns around whenever it bumps into an object. It keeps our little one on his toes as he chase Thomas around.

Big Smile with Thomas

Louiji was amazed with his little Thomas train. He was inspecting the bottom to find out where the steaming sound and music comes from. This piece actually comes with a railway but we rarely take it out because the little boy delights in seeing Thomas move around the house.

Checking out Thomas

Louiji has his own favorites among the Thomas and Friends episodes. He watches them over and over. I like it that the show goes beyond providing entertainment for the kids. Each episode conveys the value of friendship, teamwork and fair play.

Of Breastfeeding and Milk Sharing

My son is 2 years and 7 months old already and I am proud to share that we are still breastfeeding! Breastfeeding a toddler has its challenges but the benefits that we reap far outweigh the difficulties. Being able to breastfeed my son for this long is such a big blessing to our family. It is very beneficial for my growing boy and every feeding is an instant bonding time for us. Also, since I’m a breastfeeding, work-at-home mom, we save a lot of money because we don’t have to buy formula milk, feeding bottles and spend time and effort in washing and sterilising them.

While there is a growing community of breastfeeding mommies and babies, there are mothers who wanted to breastfeed their little ones but are unable to do so. Some cannot produce enough milk for their offspring while others have health conditions that prevent them from giving that precious milk to their babies. This is where the concept of milksharing comes in. If you are a breastfeeding momma who has an overflowing supply of breastmilk, you may want to participate in the upcoming Mommy Milkshare event this coming Saturday, September 5 at New Manila, QC. Read more about it from the press release below.

PRESS RELEASE

Mommy Milkshare: A MilkDrive for Moms Who Care

“Breastmilk is the best for babies” — most, if not all, moms have probably heard this at one point in their lives. The statement is 100% true, of course, which is why the World Health Organization (WHO) states the following in its report on “Global strategy on infant and young child feeding”:

Breastfeeding is an unequalled way of providing ideal food for the healthy growth and development of infants; it is also an integral part of the reproductive process with important implications for the health of mothers. As a global public health recommendation, infants should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life to achieve optimal growth, development and health.

Thereafter, to meet their evolving nutritional requirements, infants should receive nutritionally adequate and safe complementary foods while breastfeeding

continues for up to two years of age or beyond. Exclusive breastfeeding from birth is possible except for a few medical conditions, and unrestricted exclusive breastfeeding results in ample milk production.”

Bearing this in mind, two breastfeeding-advocate-minded local enterprises are holding a post-Breastfeeding Awareness Month event to help provide breastmilk to needy babies, namely “Mommy Milkshare: A MilkDrive for Moms Who Care.” This will take place on from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 5, 2015, at The Parenting Emporium, 29 1st Street, New Manila, Quezon City.

MommyMilkshare-1

The beginnings of a noteworthy event

“It all started when Jem Perez-Chua and Geraldyn Perez, the owners of Honeysuckle Philippines, approached us with this idea to ‘give back’ by organizing a milkletting activity,” Maricel Cua, co-founder of The Parenting Emporium (TPE) shares.

“We gladly agreed to co-organize because, as part of our advocacy on nutrition, one of our beneficiaries is the TPE Milksharing Hub*. The TPE Milksharing Hub fully supports milkletting activities like this, and responsible milk sharing,” she continues.

“We have participated in several milkletting efforts organized by local governments, hospitals, and even private groups. All collected milk from this particular event will go to the Fabella Milk Bank.”

Jem shares why she and her sister Geraldyn though of holding the MilkShare event. “We’ve been distributing Honeysuckle breastmilk bags for over a year now and given the reception of Filipina moms to our brand, we want to give back as well,” she says.

“We found out that the concept of breastmilk donation is not common knowledge, and some moms actually end up with a lot of ‘old frozen breastmilk’ because their babies simply weren’t able to consume all of their stored milk.

“So we thought — wouldn’t it be wonderful if another baby was able to benefit from that stored breastmilk instead? It could possibly even save lives!”

In addition, Jem and Geraldyn feel that there are “very few brands / organizations that are willing to set up breastmilk drives, because these events are really non-profit.” “So we want to help however way we can in something we feel very strongly about,” she adds.

Raising awareness, spreading the word about the advocacy

As self-declared “big supporters of breastfeeding,” Jem and Geraldyn hope they can make the Mommy MilkShare event bigger in succeeding years.

“For this first event, we reached out to The Parenting Emporium for guidance and lots of help,” Jem shares. “We found out that they have so much experience in this type of activity and we have none!

“The Parenting Emporium even took care of looking for speakers exclusively for the mom-donors to listen to,” Jem continues. “So it’s really great that we are both very aligned on this endeavor, because we just really want to help moms in whatever way we can. We hope more brands can join us in this cause in the future.”

The Mommy Milkshare MilkDrive: Uniting moms for the “breast cause” ever

“We know the benefits of breastfeeding extend beyond just the first year of life so we want to raise awareness about the importance of donating excess breastmilk of moms — because there are so many babies who need the milk,” Jem emphasizes.

“We don’t want moms to ever consider feeding their babies with formula milk — especially in the few months, just because they think there is no other solution.”

Jem adds that donating breastmilk is very fulfilling because “you know that you are nurturing the life of another baby in need, on top of your own baby.”

“We hope that we will be able to help a lot of moms and babies with what we can collect and donate, in partnership with The Parenting Emporium,” she concludes.

Event details to take note of

The Mommy Milkshare milkletting event is open to all breastfeeding moms who wish to donate their milk. “There is no registration fee, but it is exclusive for breastmilk donors. Mommies should bring frozen milk, expressed within 3 months, and should also be willing to be screened,” Maricel expounds.

Aside from the milkletting activity, participants can expect different activities as well.

“Jem and Geraldyn wanted to help mothers at different levels, so we came up with the idea of free one-on-one consultations for 4 moms (the first 4 to register) with a volunteer International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or IBCLC,” Maricel shares. “There will also be relevant talks and lootbags for donors.”

Below is the list of talks scheduled for the event:

10a.m.-12nn: Developmental Milestones of Your Infant/Toddler (Speaker: Tanya Velasco of Guru Firm {Early Childhood and Family Life Experts})

1-2p.m.: Time Management Skills for the Busy Mom (Speaker: Candice Cipullo of “The Travelling Maybahay” Blog)

2-3p.m.: Overcoming Breastfeeding Challenges (Speaker: Joyce Martinez, RN, MSN, IBCLC)

3-4p.m.: Managing Mommy Guilt (Speaker: MommyProofing Coach Joy Dejos, Certified Professional Coach)

It is hoped that through this event for moms by moms, the message of “growing together as parents” will be shared to all, and that parents — especially mothers — will be encouraged to protect, promote and support breastfeeding, and share what they have with others.

*Additional information about The TPE Milksharing Hub

Even before the official launch of The Parenting Emporium last July 2015, its founders Maricel Cua and Beng Feliciano had already been committed to milk sharing, as one of the advocacies under their former business.

“As breastfeeding advocates and peer counselors, we discovered the need to provide expert-backed information to breastfeeding moms and breastmilk to needy babies,” Maricel shares.

“Through the community that they had built at the time, which was composed of mostly nursing moms, that need was soon answered — through the generosity of the moms who gave their precious breastmilk donations,” Beng adds.

Maricel and Beng emphasize that all donations were — and still are — conscientiously screened and pasteurized to make sure that the milk is clean and safe, especially for sick babies.

“Under what is now known as the TPE Milksharing Hub, pasteurized breastmilk is distributed to babies whose mothers may be unable to provide them with sufficient breastmilk for some reason,” Maricel says.

Beng stresses that they make sure that the mothers who receive breastmilk are given breastfeeding counseling and support so that they will eventually be able to provide breastmilk for their own babies’ needs.

“This is just one way by which we hope to ‘give back’ to others,” Maricel shares.

If you are interested in donating your excess milk to the TPE Milk Sharing Hub, you may contact Maricel Cua at 0917-6247246, or Katrina Mitra at (02) 7253723 / (02) 7386272. You can also send an email to theparentingemporium@gmail.com. *Important reminders: Kindly prepare a Hepatitis-HIV profile that is less than six months old. If you have none, testing will be provided for free. Donated breastmilk should be less than three months old from date of expression.

Amino Fres-C Instant Drink Mix

It was a blessing that we received our stash of Amino Fres-C at a time when we need it the most. It was when my son and I were both down with the flu. And you know how it is with flu. Fever, lack of appetite, dryness of the mouth, fatigue and a host of other symptoms that made us lie in bed all day. It was a good thing that my husband was spared from the virus. He took care of us until we were both healthy and well. When we were still sick, my husband took the new instant drink mixes that  Ajinomoto sent to us and prepared a pitcher of juice for a couple of days just to make sure that our son and I will stay hydrated and that we get lots of Vitamin C in order for us to recover swiftly from flu. We started with the Mango flavor and I loved that it’s way better than the other brands of the same flavor. The Mango flavor of Amino Fres-C is not too sweet and it smells of fresh mangoes, too. I actually finished two glasses of it! I had the opposite experience with other mango flavored instant juice drinks. They are too sweet that I would only have a few sips or I would end up with a sore throat.

amino Fres-C MANGO

We had the Pineapple flavor the next day. It tastes just right and it smells of real pineapples, too. It has become my favorite! Our little boy loved it too that he asked for another serving after his first :)

amino Fres-C PINEAPPLE
My favorite among the 3 flavors

Yesterday, I was having an itchy throat so my good husband prepared a pitcher of the Orange flavor of Amino Fres-C. Today, I woke up and I feel better :)

amino Fres-C ORANGE

The Amino Fres-C Instant Drink Mix will soon be available in supermarkets. They are very affordable at Php8 for every sachet. It would definitely fit into our budget and would enable us to serve healthy juice drinks for our kids on a regular basis. PRESS RELEASE:

Lessen Stress at School with the new “amino Fres-C”

School is a wonderful place to explore and learn new things but parents are well-aware that this place can also be a major source of stress for kids. A school day begins and ends with passing through bumpy roads and enduring slow-moving traffic. Kindergarteners are not excused from pushing trolleys that carry heavy loads. Students have to juggle various seat works, assignments, recitations and quizzes for 8-9 subjects. In a nutshell, going to school is eternally beneficial but it is hard work!

Parents can instill the value of diligence and patience to lessen the hurdles kids face at school. Feed them with knowledge that can widen their understanding and sharpen their minds. Be involved in their school life. Assist in checking if assignments and projects are done correctly and completely and be on guard for any emotional or physical traumas they might be experiencing within and outside school premises. Extracurricular activities can also help build self-esteem and develop healthy social life for most school children as they learn to interact with other people.

Being sick or sickly is a big burden to students as they need the strength and energy to keep up with the daily demands of school. Exercise and good diet are essential in maintaining physical well-being. Parents must take time to engage their kids in fun physical activities and prepare delicious and healthy meals.

Responsible parents naturally go for safe and quality ingredients, but to make meals more enjoyable and nourishing for school children, they need to introduce variety of food ingredients and expand cooking methods from only frying to also sautéing, steaming, blanching and boiling. If frying is unavoidable, it is recommended to observe proper frying temperature (365-375’F) to decrease oil absorption. Test by dropping a small piece of food into the oil; the temperature is right if the piece of food rises above the oil within 3-5 seconds.

The new “amino Fres-C” Instant Juice Drink Mix is a great addition to kids’ baon. This is the only powdered juice drink that is packed with Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA) with Glutamine and Arginine. These specific amino acids are building blocks of protein that maintain energy levels, support muscle growth and repair, and toughen immune system – making this drink perfect for sustaining kids’ demanding schedule at school. “amino Fres-C” is 70% less calories compared to other juice brands, so they get to enjoy the real fruit taste of its orange, pineapple and mango variants, without the unnecessary calories. The new “amino Fres-C” is available in local supermarkets for only PhP 8.00 per 1 liter pack.

Try to complement “amino Fres-C” fruit juice with these tasty and healthy baon recipes from Ajinomoto:
